Apple Set to Launch XR Headset "Vision Pro" in February Amid Intensive Preparations

by twoPigeon 2024. 1. 4.

Apple is reportedly gearing up to launch its mixed reality (XR) headset, the "Vision Pro," in the United States starting February next year. In anticipation of the release, Apple has recently increased production, encouraged app developers, and initiated training sessions for Apple Store employees.

Citing reliable sources, Bloomberg reported on the 21st that Apple is in the final stages of preparation for the February launch, with exclusive production of the Vision Pro taking place in Chinese factories.

As part of the preparation, Apple sent emails to software developers on that day, urging them to test their apps with the latest tools and provide feedback. Additionally, in early January, Apple plans to train two employees from each of its 270 stores across the United States on the various components and usage of the headset, including the headset itself, head strap, light seal, and vision correction lenses.

Given the high price tag of $3,500 (approximately 4.5 million won), the Vision Pro is making extra efforts to leave a favorable impression on users.

Apple is known for conducting separate events ahead of major product launches. However, predictions suggest that Apple might skip this tradition for the Vision Pro.

One major concern revolves around its expensive price. Some testers have expressed dissatisfaction with the short battery life (2 hours) and the weight of the headset.

The Vision Pro is considered a highly experimental product, with Apple reportedly already developing a more affordable next-generation version set to be released in 2026. The development of the VisionOS operating system's next version is also in progress, scheduled for release in the latter half of 2024.

Possible delays in the schedule due to production issues have not been officially commented on by Apple.

In an email sent to developers, Apple expressed excitement about the future, stating, "There's so much more to come, and we can't wait to see what unfolds next year."

The global launch of the Vision Pro is expected by the end of next year, including countries such as Korea, France, Germany, Australia, China, and Japan, where localization efforts are currently underway.
