Apple's Vision Pro Raises Concerns in the TV Market with Remarkable Performanc

by twoPigeon 2024. 1. 2.

Apple's recently unveiled mixed reality device, the 'Vision Pro,' has sparked concerns that its exceptional capabilities might pose a threat to the large TV market, according to an analysis by Raymond Wang, a tech journalist from the specialized media outlet Inverse. On the 15th, Wang published an experiential article titled "Almost Cried Watching My Memories on Apple Vision Pro," highlighting his emotional experience with the device in three separate occasions.

Apple recently updated the iPhone 15 Pro with a 'Spatial Video Recording (3D camera recording)' feature. This functionality allows users to capture 3D videos using the iPhone 15 Pro. Wang shared an example of recording a video of a meal with his mother at a restaurant, and upon viewing it on the Vision Pro, he was so moved by the realism that he almost shed tears.

Wang emphasized that while 2D videos (non-spatial videos) are displayed in a regular 2D format on the Vision Pro, spatial videos offer a unique and immersive experience. He praised Apple's suggestion to incorporate emotional content into videos, stating that it was a justified proposal.

The expectation is that capturing 3D videos with an iPhone and viewing them on the Vision Pro could become the killer app for the device.

Raymond Wang expressed a bold prediction, stating, "The Vision Pro, being the ultimate large screen, is poised to have a significant impact on the large TV and projection screen industries." He questioned the rationale of investing $3000 in the latest TV when there's a portable device like the Vision Pro that makes viewing all types of content easy and accessible.
